BlackSpace is co-developing a heritage conservation effort with Brownsvillians centered around Black culture and space. The effort is focused on documenting, conserving and amplifying Black culture in Brownsville. We recently completed the Brownsville  heritage conservation playbook in collaboration with Made in Brownsville! Thanks to collective edits and a savvy interactive  design, the playbook is an incredible accomplishment to add to the BlackSpace canon! Please find the online version below, by clicking on the PDF thumbnail. Look out for similar collaborations with the Brownsville community in the future! This project was funded by the J.M. Kapland Fund grant which is specifically designated to Brownsville engagement.

BlackSpace mentored Bed-Stuy youth during a 14-week neighborhood history scavenger hunt in partnership with local nonprofit, Children of Promise. Our mentors introduced youth to planning and design professions while guiding their research on places of historic significance in their rapidly gentrifying community.
